5 Dance Movies You Should Definitely Check Out

Dance movies are the best. I think we would all agree. The best part about these movies is that they are also engrossing to watch. Whether you are a trained dancer or not, they will make you want to swing your body to the beats and glide around on the dance floor.

We've rounded up 5 dance movies that we feel are some of the greatest of all times:

Center Stage (2000)

There is a reason this movie is on everyone’s favorite dance movies list. It has everything: dance, drama, backstabbing, backstage romance and a gorgeous finale number featuring Michael Jackson and Jamiroquai. Watch Center Stage for the fantastic ballet dancing and the inspirational message of dancing with your heart.

Dirty Dancing (1987)

This is the ULTIMATE dance movie. The be-all and end-all of all dance movies, Dirty Dancing follows the story of Frances “Baby” Houseman and Johnny Castle. That lift in the final dance sequence even inspired a remake in Crazy, Stupid, Love - with Ryan Gosling, no less! Also, you’ll not be able to watch the movie without singing along to all the songs.

Billy Elliot (2000)

Billy Elliot, which was a both commercial and critical success, is about an 11-year old boy, Billy Elliot, who ditches boxing to pursue his dream of becoming a ballet dancer. It is not just the little boy and his flawless dance moves but also the message of the movie of staying true to oneself no matter what, that makes the movie so inspirational.

Flashdance (1983)

One of the greatest dance movies of all times, Flashdance is the story of Alex Owens, who is a factory worker by day and a burlesque dancer by night and nurtures the dream of becoming a professional ballerina. This movie, even though panned by critics, holds a special place in the hearts of all those who grew up in the 80s

Step Up (2006)

Step Up, or better known as “the movie that gave us Channing Tatum”, is the story of how a young man from the wrong side of the tracks helps a ballet dancer with his hip hop moves. This movie seamlessly merges hip hop and ballet through the protagonists’ stories. Many sequels followed this, but this one will always be special.
If these movies don’t make you want to get into your dance shoes, then we don’t know what will. And if you decide to do so, come join our adult dance classes and get your moves on!
