Differentiated Needs
Ceroc is JOYFUL! It is a chance for friends to gather, socialise, keep themselves fit, learn an exciting new skill and interact with people who share their passion.
It is our responsibility as organisers, as much as it is our members' responsibility, to ensure that our events are inclusive, welcoming, safe and enjoyable for all.
The physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of all our members is absolutely paramount. Please always consider and demonstrate our following codes of best practice to ensure you and your fellow dancers have noting but the greatest experience with Ceroc.
Ceroc is an inclusive organisation, and we enthusiastically welcome those with a range of different Physical, Behavioural and Educational needs to our events.
We are a partner led dance where there will be physical contact with members of the public, and therefore there may be adjustments required to our teaching methodology and event space to welcome a range of differentiated needs. The full range of differentiated needs cannot be covered in one document. As such, we invite you to talk to us to enable our teams to make suitable adjustments to our lessons, freestyles and venues.
Those with a disability that could risk harm through physical activity/contact, or those with a long term condition that require additional support, may not be able to receive appropriate adjustments with little notice to the organiser. If in doubt, we politely request that you contact us prior to arrival at any new venue. This will allow our teams to implement adjustments within their capabilities, or alternatively to seek advice from our Head Office team. You will then be contacted when these measures can be achieved and your safety and enjoyment can be guaranteed.
We are extremely excited to welcome differentiated needs into our venue and work with you in adapting our curriculum. These adaptations may require training for our members, and therefore prior warning and an agreed start date will be discussed with you when you contact the organiser. The event organisers contact details will be on the website page for the event, and we look forward to your call or email.
Adjustments
Adjustments are required when the health and safety of individuals themselves (or others around them) are impacted in any way, or if safeguarding is compromised.
- We are a contact partner activity and injury can be caused to those with differentiated physical needs. Our syllabus may need reasonable adjustment, or variations suggested, to facilitate safe practice.
- Those with cognitive, emotional, social or behavioural needs may require adjustment too. Our environment can be loud, busy and fast paced, and individuals may need to fully understand and consent to this dynamic prior to attending. We will endeavour to make adjustments where possible whilst maintaining the quality of our product.
- If you are concerned in any way, please seek medical advice to ensure that an activity such as Ceroc will not cause any risk or harm to your condition. You then have the opportunity to disclose your findings to our teams, allowing us to work together on your safety and comfort.
- If you require a carer for access to public venues, or to enable your access to activities of daily living, then it is crucial that you bring a carer with you to all Ceroc events.
- For any vulnerable adults unable to make informed consent in an activity which necessitates physical human contact and interaction, please ensure a responsible guardian or carer is present at all Ceroc events that you attend (see guidelines for Safeguarding Young People).
- Not all disabilities are visible. If we are not notified about any differentiated needs prior to your attendance at Ceroc events, we as organisers will always assume your consent. If we recognise vulnerability, potential/evidence for abuse, or a demonstration of behaviour that we deem requires adjustment, we may ask individuals for a discussion. If adjustments are required, they may be implemented immediately, or a new start date may be agreed with the individual once we can ensure their safety and comfort.
If in doubt, the best option is to talk to us. We apologise if anything above sounds inconsiderate or discriminatory; we can assure you that it is not, and we strive to make Ceroc accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Our measures are simply a dedication to the health, safety, comfort and accessibility for everyone present at our events. Diversity is our strength, and we are constantly improving our events on your feedback.
We have years of experience providing dance events for thousands of people. We have learned many things during our 45 years, all of which have contributed towards making our Ceroc events safe, inclusive and supportive for all.
That said, we recognise that there are always more things that we can learn to enhance and develop our practices. If you have any suggestions that would make you, or someone you know, feel more welcome and comfortable at one of our events, we would love to share the discussion at tim@ceroc.com.
Many thanks for your continued support and sensitivity.
